The Committee
Chairman - Keith Jackson
I have never been one for belonging to Clubs but I joined the EMKC to try to quickly learn more about pond-keeping and never looked back, with pretty much everything I know learned from fellow members - and I'm still learning. After the slump in EMKC membership, I became Chairman in the reorganisation and am both proud and pleased to have seen the rapid changes in the Club's fortunes since that new Committee took over. This is a Club that has come a long way and is still going places.
Vice Chairman - Martin Barnett (Mushio)
I have been keeping koi, in one way or another for around 25 years now. I first started when I bought a house with a small pond already built in the garden. Then you get bitten ! Now 5 ponds down the line, I have a 7500gallon setup. I also have been to Japan on koi trips twice so far, and intend to go many times more. Koi have become a big part of my life, and an even bigger part in destroying my bank balance. 2007 saw me start to show my koi, with great success, even at national level, and I plan to build on this in the future.
P.R.O. - Darren Turner
I have been keeping koi for about 4 years now and am currently on pond no. 3 which is 80000gl and home to 14 koi. I completed building this pond in Sept-07, with the help of several of our club members. During my time keeping koi I have been a member of the EMKC and have had many great club nights, visits to other clubs and trips out and have never laughed so much! Be warned, this club is seriously good fun. Also I have made several very good friends through the club and hobby.
Secretary - Phil Hibbard
I have been keeping koi for two years and I live next door to Shane. We are best mates and have the luxury of having two 5000 gallon ponds six feet apart from each other. We also share a 1000 gallon indoor growing on system. We both love this hobby and enjoy meeting other koi nuts from all over the country. Our club is very friendly, no anoraks in sight. Our club nights are most enjoyable, everyone is welcome.
Treasurer - Emma Salt
My involvement in koi is due mainly to my husband’s interest in them. Over the years I’ve grown to appreciate them and since joining the EMKC and getting involved in the social activities, I have become more involved in the running of the club.

I had been a novice fish keeper for just over a year before I joined EMKC in the autumn of 2006.
Since joining I have picked up some useful tips from other members of this club and during visits out to other clubs.
I have yet to aquire that very special Koi but who knows, the koi I choose from the EMKC Grow & Show may just be that turning point.
General Committee Member - Shane Brown
I've been keeping koi know for about 2 years and i'm already on my second pond, which is 5000gl with block built filtration.I also share a 1000gl growing on pond with my neighbour, who has an almost identical 5000gl pond too!
I've been a member of the EMKC since Oc-06 and have enjoyed every meeting we have had as well as the the club visits in and out which are a great way of meeting like minded people. So if you are at a loose end on the last Wednesday of every month then come and join us.
General Committee Member - Simon Nourse
I have been a fish keeper for the last 30 years and always dreamed of having a koi pond. After hearing about the EMKC and the fact that it was local to me, I went along and have never looked back. I met a great group of friendly people that made koi keeping a fun hobby and helped me realize my dream of having a koi pond. I finally completed my pond in 2006 and since then it has brought me many hours of pleasure.
General Committee Member - Tim Salt
I Have been keeping fish for around 10 years now and am now on pond number 3. I’ve been a member of the EMKC for about 8 years. During this time we have had many enjoyable visits out and social events. This is the side of koi keeping that you can’t get from the internet. Our club is renowned for its friendly and light hearted approach to the hobby.
General Committee Member - Jess Roberts
I had my first pond built 2½ years ago and like a most people I started with a few goldfish but soon caught the Koi bug. I joined the EMKC in 2007 and have been amazed at how friendly the other members are and I have gained a great deal from their knowledge and experience which they willingly give to "newbie's" like me . The club nights are a real event and make the journey from Birmingham really worthwhile.
