Below is a list of activities and events that we have going on throughout the year. Please check back regularly for the latest updates.
Visit to Birmingham and West Midlands Koi Club
Various ponds around the West Mids area
5th July 2009
T.B.C.
Another busy month lies ahead, starting with our return visit to the Birmingham and West Midlands Koi Club. After a fantastic attendance by their club to visit us lets show them what the EMKC can do! We would like it if every member (and partners) could make this great day out and we will be confirming details very soon. We are planning to put a coach on for this event and looking forward to a warm welcome as we are shown around some great ponds.
Richdon Summer BBQ and Hog Roast
Richdon Koi,
Burton on Trent
18th July 2009
T.B.C.
Not strictly an EMKC event as such, but always well attended by the EMKC members, with us having our own tent and private EMKC area set-up, complete with club banner. A great chance to meet loads of koi enthusiasts throughout the day and recruit some new members to the EMKC. The day usually comprises of a health talk by Richard then several talks by special guest speakers. Followed by the BBQ and hog roast, lots of drink and a good old sing song and boogie till late, one event not to miss!
Cambridgeshire Koi Club - Visit to the EMKC
Various Ponds around Burton and Derby area
26th July 2009
T.B.C.
We welcome the Cambridge Koi Club along to our members ponds this month. The Itinerary will be confirmed soon but one thing you can be sure of is that it will be another great visit in to the EMKC and we hope that we have some good weather to offer our guests as well as great hospitality. Please make sure you come along and support this event as it is always a much more social occasion when we have lots of our own members come round the ponds too. Keep and eye out for more details very soon!
Open Pond Night - Martin (Mushio) and Ronnie Barnett's
Winshill,
Burton on Trent
29th July 2009
7:30pm Start
The meeting for this month will be at Mushio's house, in Winshill. It's been a few years since we last visited Mushio's pond and he has since moved on quite a few koi and replaced then with some even better ones. I'm sure there will be plenty of Pedi flowing too, with a bite to eat and a few drinks these open pond nights have proven very popular and also give us plenty of time to talk about club related things during these hectic few months.
Open Pond Night - Darren and Emma's Pond
Stretton,
Burton on Trent
26th August 2009
7:30pm Start
August sees a return to Darren and Emma's pond. The last visit we had here was two years ago, and the pond was some 4,000 gallons and faced with wooden decking. Shortly after the pond was extended, with the help of many EMKC members, to 8,000 gallons and faced in brick. So this will be a great chance to see the upgrade after it has been running for two years now. As always, another great social occasion with lots of food and drink to be consumed and plenty of koi chat and banter to be had. Plus still lots of club activities to discuss and organise.
Visit to Cambridgeshire Koi Club
Various Ponds Around Cambridgeshire
13th September 2009
T.B.C.
September sees us take the trip across the fens to Cambridgeshire. Although the itinerary is yet to be confirmed I can tell you that on the agenda will be Dave Pope's pond with some spectacular show winning koi to be seen, and also a massive 20,000 gallon indoor pond, housed within a superb conservatory! Again we will be looking at booking a coach for this visit to allow our members to fully enjoy the day out. Please check back soon for more information.
2009 Photo show Presentation Evening
The Clock Warehouse,
Shardlow
23rd September 2009
7:30pm Start
This year we aim to make the photo show bigger, better and funnier than ever before! A tall order for sure but I am sure we can make it happen. One change to the format of the photo show this year is that whoever is appointed Judge will have access to video footage as well as photo's to make sure that the winners are fully deserved. We will also make sure that we have backup systems to ensure that the night runs as smooth as possible with no possible hiccups! The success of the photo show has been a major driving force behind the success of the club and we aim for this to continue for years to come.
Talk By Richard of Richdon Koi on Growing on Koi
The Clock Warehouse,
Shardlow
28th October 2009
7:30pm for an 8pm Start
Octobers talk sees Richdon Koi's 2nd autumn harvest of the 50k pond. We will see the video presentation of the harvest followed by a question and answer session on growing on koi, looking at some before and after photo's to help us learn what to look out for when selecting young koi. Also Richard will unvaile the plans for his new project, the 100k growing on pond which is to be used to grown on koi from Nisai to Sansai.
EMKC Member Autumn Trip to Japan Presentation
The Clock Warehouse,
Shardlow
2nd December 2009
7:30pm for an 8pm Start
This months meeting will be a talk by Mushio on the recent trip to Japan, along with other EMKC members Rich and Daz. This follows the journey from Burton to Nigata, with some amazing photo's and video footage to bring it all to life. Along with plenty of humerous anecdotes as Mushio recollects these fantastic twelve days in his own unique style. Not one for the easily offended, as may contain the odd inuendo or swear word, be warned!
Xmas Party
The Golden Dragon
Shardlow
5th December 2009
Time to be confirmed
The members decided that for this years xmas party we would go for a traditional sit down meal, so we booked a Chinese Restaurtant instead lol.
As always this will be a fun filled evening with lots of food and drink and afterwards if you are in the mood to carry on partying then we will be moving on to one of the local establishments for plenty more thirst quencing and hopefully some entertaintment,
