Although the EMKC has been around for a long time, it went through a sharp period of decline in the early part of the decade and came close to closing. Luckily, a few enthusiastic members refused to let it die and became the new Committee, driving the Club forward again. From that low point, not very long ago, the Club has grown strongly and continues to increase its numbers each year. With an active membership of 30 in 2007, it can truly be said that the EMKC is back and stronger than ever.
Our members have ponds of many forms. Some, like my own, are small and low-tech. Others are large and have all the modern conveniences of the koi world but there is one thing that binds us all together - keeping happy, healthy koi. This approach makes the EMKC an extremely friendly group where having fun is a top priority. We are broadly based in the Derby/Burton on Trent area but the members attend regularly from as far away as Chesterfield, Northampton, Birmingham and Corwen on the North Welsh borders. The Photo Show is our major event. Members' koi are photographed and videoed, with the member providing the commentary for each pond. The photographs are viewed anonymously by a trained judge and the whole is compiled into a DVD as a permanent record for the entrants.
Do you need help or assistance with your pond or fish? Planning a pond and don't know where to start? Got sick fish? The members are always happy to offer advice and guidance so come along to a meeting. Don't be concerned that you'll be ridiculed for asking a foolish question! The only foolish question is the one not asked that would have saved you time, worry or money.
